Tom Beaumont

Executive Director

Tom is a graduate of Multnomah Bible College and Western Seminary of Portland, Oregon. He has been in full-time Christian camping ministry since 1981 and at The Firs since 1985. He has been active with Christian Camping and Conference Association for most of those years. He and Mary have three grown children – two daughters and a son. He enjoys teaching, reading, writing and a variety of sports activities.

Rebekah Quinn

Rebekah Quinn

Executive Assistant & Personnel Manager

Rebekah hails from Galliano, Louisiana, and is a graduate of Nicholls State University. She made her way to Bellingham after spending much time with Youth With A Mission Maui, where she administrated and directed their Discipleship Training School. Rebekah is married to Ben and they have two boys, Bennett & Connor.

Office Manager & Receptionist

Jenny joined the staff in December 2000. She has a Fine Arts degree from SPU & attended Torchbearer’s Bible Schools in England (Capenwray) and Sweden (Holsbybrunn). In her free time, Jenny enjoys decorating with refurbished thriftstore finds, painting, & gardening.

The Firs Registrar

Kim was hired as The Firs Registrar in 2013, but was initially introduced to The Firs as a camper parent (her three boys have attended Fircreek Day Camp and Camp Firwood). In her free time, Kim also started and runs another non-profit, “The Foster Closet”, serving Whatcom County foster families.

Volunteer Assistant to the Director of Business Services

Crystal came to work at The Firs in 1992 as Office Manager and Secretary to the Executive Director. She currently works as a volunteer in the Accounting Department.

Krista Kok

Krista Kok

Head Bookkeeper

Krista joined The Firs staff in 2018 as a bookkeeper who assists the Director of Business Services. She migrated from Minnesota in 1995, after falling in love with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Since then she has supported churches and Christian ministries with her love and knack for numbers. Krista has three children, two dogs, and one cat.

Kirk Potter

Kirk Potter

Family Retreat Center & Community Ministries Director

Kirk joined the staff in 2007. He graduated from Biola University and Talbot Seminary, where he earned a BA and MA in Christian Education with an emphasis in camping. As a student, he spent 11 summers in camping, serving four different camps, including Firwood (camp name “Snap Biscuits” – long story). Kirk has worked in church and camping ministries since then, including 16 years as the director of a Canadian camp. Kirk and Debbie have three grown children. He can often be found working on a home renovation project or under the hood of an old car.

Marc joined The Firs in 1989 and is currently responsible for the financial/business end of the ministry. He and his wife, Karen, have three grown children. Born and raised in California, Marc worked at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center in California before moving to Washington.

Emilee Stacy

Retreat Center Guest Services Director

Emilee attended both Fircreek and Firwood growing up. During her high school and college summers, she worked as a server and in the kitchen at the Retreat Center and also at Washington Family Ranch. After graduating from George Fox with a degree in Organizational Communication, she spent a year at a Young Life camp in Michigan. In those settings, she felt called and equipped for retreat and camping ministry. Emilee loves spending time with her husband, Cody.

Jen joined the staff in 2007. She and her husband, Miguel, have raised two handsome young men, and she enjoys leading worship at her church. Her passion is to serve well and to train and equip others to serve in the capacity that God calls them to.

Accommodations Supervisor

Barb has been a staff member since 1985 and is currently in charge of Retreat Center housekeeping and is the rental coordinator. She also heads up our popular Scrapbooking events. Barb was born and raised at The Firs (she’s Helen and Doug Anderson’s daughter). She and her husband Bruce have two grown sons and six grandchildren; three granddaughters and three grandsons.

Firwood Registrar

Angie served at Camp Firwood as a Counselor for a summer and Wrangler for two summers. Her last summer she enjoyed serving with Sonny, whom she married in October 2005. She and Sonny have a son, Che, and a daughter, Copper. Angie loves Camp Firwood, knowing it’s a valuable place for young hearts wanting to know Christ.

Steve has been on staff at The Firs since 2009; most recently as the Assistant Director of Camp Firwood and now as Camp Firwood Director. Steve and his wife, Whitney, also met at camp, and they now have a son and two daughters.

Jon was introduced to Bellingham in 1991 as a CIT (camp name “Shamu”), where he quickly fell in love with Firwood and the Pacific Northwest. Transferring to WWU in ’95, he completed a degree in business and psychology, while spending summers at Firwood, where he met his wife Shannon (“Bufont”). A seminary graduate of Regent College, Jon’s ministry focus has been with college students and young professionals, with a particular heart for discipleship, leadership development and connecting faith to all of life. Jon and Shannon have two boys, Noah and Caleb.

Fircreek Director

Darell and his wife, Stacy, came to The Firs in 1985 and have served in various roles over the years, including Director of Camp Firwood in the ’90s.
Currently, Darell serves as, Director of Fircreek Day Camp. Over the years, he has had the pleasure of working with hundreds of young summer staff leaders, as well as thousands of campers, many of them now sending their children to The Firs camps (Fircreek Day Camp or Camp Firwood).
They have three adult children, Jacob Abby and Baylor.

After School Adventure Program Coordinator

Dana “Burkey McBurkBurk” Chauvin graduated from Youngstown State University in Ohio in 2009, with a degree in theater. During college, she also worked at Camp Burton. Two months after graduation, Dana moved to Bellingham to be an intern at the ASA program. After the second year, she chose to stay on full-time. Dana loves her time at ASA, getting to know the kids and families, as well as the extra fun that comes with her job!

Doug and his wife, Julie, moved to Sudden Valley from the Seattle area a few years ago to be closer to their kids and grandchildren. Doug comes to this position with a variety of experience in cooking, catering, and event creation. His desire is to continue the high level of quality and service that is synonymous with The Firs.

Jim manages Food Service operations for Camp Firwood in the summertime and The Firs Chalet at Mount Baker during the winter season. Jim and his wife, Tina, raised 3 children in Whatcom County. They have 5 grandchildren.

Brian and his wife, Julie, have been volunteers at The Firs for many years before joining our staff. In his free time, Brian enjoys working on house projects and playing card games with Julie (Julie is also on our Scrapbooking and housekeeping team). They have three grown children; one son and two daughters.

Bruce Vander Meulen

Maintenance & Project Director

Bruce met his wife, Barb, on a mission trip in Guatemala, then joined The Firs staff in 1985 after their marriage. He splits his time at all three sites, but oversees the maintenance and projects at the Retreat Center. Bruce and Barb have two sons and six grandchildren. He also enjoys house renovation projects and tinkering with old cars.

Facilities Manager - Firwood & The Chalet

Doug had been on staff previously and again joined our staff in 2000. He heads up maintenance at Camp Firwood and the Chalet, and fills in at the Retreat Center as needed. His wife, Marie, also helps with our Scrapbooking events. They have a grown son and daughter.

Facilities Assistant

After working in maintenance at a horse ranch, then aboard a fishing boat on the Bering Sea for five very full seasons (as deck boss, cook, co-pilot, “chief”, and in maintenance), God called Glenn to The Firs to be closer to family. His extensive maintenance background is an asset to the maintenance team, as they work to maintain the Retreat Center grounds.
